Project Resources

A wide range of resources from the TRiFOCAL project can be found on this page, including evaluation case studies for schools and communities as well as business case studies and dissemination case studies. The TRiFOCAL education pack and community leaders pack are also available here.

The TRiFOCAL Education Pack contains a wide variety of resources for teachers and workshop leaders, including lesson plans and learning activities.

Topics covered in the education pack include:

  • Food Waste Prevention
  • Food Waste Recycling
  • Health and Sustainable Eating
  • Lesson plans and resources for teachers and workshop leaders

Please feel free to share the education pack with other teachers and schools in order to share learning far and wide.

Groundwork London were responsible for the schools engagement arm of TRiFOCAL, curating an award-winning education programme designed for key stage 2 pupils (aged between 9 and 10) which was delivered in 24 schools in nine boroughs across London.

The specific objectives of the workshop series were for pupils to:

  • Increase their knowledge of the key messages
  • Adopt positive attitudes and behaviours around the key messages
  • Spread their learnings to other pupils, parents and staff

The project was evaluated using multiple tools: a weekly lunchtime food waste audit, a questionnaire completed by teachers, and key performance indicators (including homework pledges and counts of pupil, parent and teacher engagement). In addition, pupils were also evaluated using a pre- and post-intervention survey in the form of a quiz.

The in-depth evaluation case studies consider the scale of attitude and claimed behaviour change on pupils across three constructs: avoidable food waste prevention; unavoidable food waste recycling; healthy sustainable eating.

The community leaders pack was produced based on feedback received from a variety of community leaders who took part in our training. The aim of this toolkit is to provide you, the community leader, with resources which enable you to encourage healthy and sustainable eating, food waste prevention and food recycling in your community.

In this pack you will find the following:

  • Food facts to help you start conversations
  • The three messages unpacked and how you can make a difference
  • Examples of events and activities that you could run
  • Funding guidance to help bring your projects to life
  • An extensive set of materials from Small Change Big Difference that you can use for your own activities, including a directory of relevant organisations and initiatives to help you extend your network and find more resources

Between 2017 and 2019, TRiFOCAL delivered 20 community workshops and 82 training sessions for citizens and community leaders across London. The specific objectives of the workshops were for participants to:

  • Increase their knowledge of the key messages
  • Adopt positive attitudes and behaviours around the key messages
  • Spread their learnings to wider members of the community

The in-depth evaluation case studies consider the scale of attitude and claimed behaviour change on attendees across three constructs: avoidable food waste prevention; unavoidable food waste recycling; and healthy sustainable eating.
